Seattle (November 1, 2018)Mackenzie Chase, Manager of Washington State Government Relations for Save the Children Action Network (SCAN) released the following statement today on the Proposition 1, the Families, Education, Preschool and Promise Levy, press conference. Voters have until Tuesday, November 6 to vote.

“The best way to invest in Seattle’s future is voting “yes” on Proposition 1 for the Families, Education, Preschool and Promise Levy, which would invest in education from cradle to career.

“If voters support this initiative, approximately 14,000 kids would get access to the Seattle Preschool Program over the next seven years. Seattle’s high-quality preschool program puts preschool in reach for low and middle-income families who might not have access otherwise, and it’s a key component of closing the opportunity gap and ensuring that all children are ready for kindergarten.

“Proposition 1 would also maintain critical support services for K-12 students and expand the Seattle Promise, which provides high school graduates with two years of free tuition at Seattle community colleges.

“We urge voters to support Proposition 1 and to ensure that their ballots are completed and postmarked or returned to drop box by November 6.”
