When baby Kadijatu became sick with a fever she could have died. Fortunately, her mother had access to a health clinic in Sierra Leone. Each year, 5.9 million kids aren’t as lucky. They die from preventable causes.
We can change this.
We Know What Works to Help Kids Survive and Thrive
Kids shouldn’t die from things like diarrhea, pneumonia and malnutrition. Yet every day, 16,000 children under age 5 die from these and other preventable causes.
The good news is we know what works to help stop preventable deaths of moms and kids. In fact, since 1990, the number of children under five who have died from preventable causes has dropped by more than 50%!
Legislation in Congress called the Reach Every Mother and Child Act would increase access to the low-cost, high-impact approaches that work to prevent maternal and child deaths in the countries that need them most. It would enable the U.S. to save the lives of 15 million children and 600,000 women.
